Know how sometimes you misplace your car keys or phone? Well, folks, I misplaced a whole damn blog! Last year in freakin’ January, I took photos for the Anita Momentum Maximum Support Sports Bra. In a fit of organizational zeal, I promptly placed them in a folder and then mistakenly believed I wrote the content. Bad, Erica, bad! Consequently, this review is long overdue, and I am so excited to share it today because this is one of the bras I wear twice a week.
Since I work from home, my daily bras are wireless with an emphasis on support and comfort. Furthermore, Mr. Medjay is a highly energetic Border Collie who requires two walks per day of at least three miles each. Yes, I walk my dog six miles a day. Thank goodness for audiobooks is all I’m sayin’. His first walk is immediately after I wake up, meaning it makes sense to wear the sports bra all day rather than constantly change.
Size: US 36H/UK 36FF
At the time of the pictures, I was roughly 8 pounds heavier than I am now. I was between 32/34 bands, and the 36 was perfect on the loosest column of hooks. After 18 months of wear, I opt for the middle or tightest hooks. However, considering how often I turn to the Momentum, the band held up remarkably well.
When I first started wearing the sports bra, the cup was slightly small, but now fits beautifully. The smallness of the cup was not a deterrent because I did not feel pain or strong compression. If you’re considering trying this style, I highly recommend sizing up at least one band size, two if you are between sizes, and then sister-sizing the cups.
Fit
The Momentum boasts a high-impact structure, which lends a fuller coverage fit in the front. The sides have a higher profile to keep tissue contained as you move. Wide wings converge in the back to four rows of hook-and-eye closures. A thick band at the base of the bra anchors to the body and provides added lift and support too.
My breasts lost firmness as my weight decreased, but they remain balanced in fullness. I find the fit perfect for me. When I had the shop, I used to special order this regularly for customers, and because the cups do not contain any padding and the coverage is full, the style fits most shapes well. Moreover, the slight stretch in the fabric running along the top and sides of the cup allow for better movement as you exercise.
I also love the shape the cup creates. For a wireless bra, the profile is not only lifted but also surprisingly rounded. Medjay went through his first round of obedience school, and I often wore this bra under even tighter tees. The shape was indistinguishable from underwire bras. Wireless customers may find the Momentum makes for an excellent everyday alternative, especially because of how comfortable it feels.
Materials
One of my favorite elements to the Momentum is the wings. They are an aerated two-ply fabric, meaning there are holes in it to facilitate air flow. Initially, I was concerned this would shorten the bra’s lifespan, especially with machine washing. However, the wings are in perfect condition.
In fact, one of the reasons I love Anita so much is their quality. Nothing is ever substandard. I wore this bra twice a week every week for about 21 months, and the bra still looks fairly new.
The shoulder straps are partially adjustable, padded, and inset to prevent slippage. I like the padding because it alleviates shoulder pain, but customers with high set breasts or who are petite may not be able to adjust them tight enough. Sports bras with fully-adjustable straps are a better option for you.
On the interior of the cups, Anita utilizes a super soft fabric to prevent chafing and enable moisture wicking. The front is a smooth seamless style, making it discreet under even whisper thin workout wear.
Price of the Momentum
Because of the quality, Anita is not a cheap brand, not that anything is cheap anymore. The Momentum clocks in at $82 ($79 at the time of the video). Most quality sports bras run between $75 and $89, placing Momentum squarely in the middle. I cannot emphasize how well the bra holds up even with machine wash and frequent wear.
If you’re using Momentum as an everyday bra, treat it the same way you would other every day bras. Do not wear it on back to back days to prevent the bra from becoming misshapen or wearing out too quickly.
Overall
Anita seems to be a brand you see more in boutiques than in department stores. If you aren’t familiar with it, you may not want to take the gamble. Trust me, they are worth the price, and the quality and fit will be something you turn to again and again. I also wear this other Anita Sport Bra twice a week too. Just remember, their bands run tight, so do not order your standard size. They also use US sizing. Be aware of that when you order.
