Earlier this week, I raved about the Exclusively Kristen button front shirt, and today I’m reviewing her full coverage tank. While not as challenging to locate as a well-fitting button front, tank tops pose unique challenges for bigger busted folk. Whether the arms holes gape open to expose your bra or the complete lack of chest space mashes your boobs, tanks can make going sleeveless a hassle. Does the full coverage Exclusively Kristen tank fall into the same traps? Should I use ellipsis to build the anticipation? Nah, the tank top is fabulous, and I’m excited to showcase it for you.
Size
Kristen sent me a size X-Large based on my heavier measurements. The size chart lists the tank range as: 47-51” bust, 38-42” waist, and 48-52” hip. When I received this item, I was much heavier, and the tank did fit albeit snugly. Now, the tank has a more relaxed fit while still hugging my curves. For reference, my measurements are: 42” bust, 33” waist, and 39” low hip. Because of the 5% spandex component, there is flexibility in sizing. I do think it runs small, and if you’re between sizes, you may want to size up.
Fit
From my bra reviews, I’m sure y’all noticed I have a pretty large tattoo on my side. While I love the tattoo, I prefer not to show it off in everyday life. I sat for a combined 12 hours for that work of art, and I did it for myself, not anyone else. However, this does not stop creepy dudes from leering and making uncomfortable comments if the tattoo is too visible. In cooler months, fabrics are thicker, and layering is common, lessening this unfortunate male gaze problem. When the temperatures swelter, I want to be able to stay cool and wear a tank or tee like everyone else without worrying about what attention I attract.
Unfortunately, most tanks are either not built for a larger bust or, as is also the case with tees, the fabric is whisper thin. The heavy black ink in my tattoo shows through clearly. Thankfully, the Exclusively Kristen tank does none of these things.
The straps across the shoulder are wide enough to conceal any bra strap, and the neckline and backline are both high enough to offer coverage without being stuffy. The fabric is a matte opaque. Even in the brightest daylight, there is no transparency.
As with the button front shirt, there is empty space in the bust region to let you fill it out comfortably, and then angled darting helps the tank contour to you. The tank also gently nips in at the waist, making it work for multiple body shapes.
Materials & Price
Consisting of 95% cotton and 5% spandex, the fabric of the tank feels comfortable and breathable against the skin. As I mentioned above, it is not super thin, and I would go so far as to say you could wear it as a shaping tank if you size down because the firmness would also offer control.
The construction is as thoughtful and high quality as I have come to expect from the brand, and at $29, the tank is a steal. Between the full coverage design, the materials, and the finishing touches like darting and sturdy seams, the tank easily competes with similarly priced brands.
Overall Thoughts on the Exclusively Kristen Full Coverage Tank
Since receiving the tank, I have worn it both on its own and as a layering tank. One of the things I like about the tank is the length. As someone with a long torso, it can be difficult to find tops which do not stop high up on my waist, and not in that cute crop top way. Skirts ease the problem, but if I wear jeans, the proportions look askew. With this tank, I can tuck it in for a smoother silhouette or leave out for that casual vibe.
For layering, the fabric is flat and thin enough to lay flat under multiple shirts and dresses. The scoop neck design does not interfere during layering but is also flattering when wearing the tank as a standalone piece.
Finally, as with the button front shirt, the tank is classic and basic in the best possible ways. It does not sport detailing which date the piece or make it hard to incorporate into multiple outfits. The tank is like a fashion multi-tool. Overall, I highly recommend Exclusively Kristen, not just the tank or the button front, but the brand as a whole. Shop small and help support a brand trying to bring fuller-busted people more clothing options.
