A Sophisticated Notion

Hello Ladies,

For years, Fantasie was my go-to brand, due in large part to the easy access I had to their smoothing series; however, after I opened the shop, temptation from other brands was powerful and magnetic.ย  Slowly my lingerie wardrobe shifted toward fun, quirky brands like Freya and Cleo and away from the brand which helped me love my boobs again.ย  However, when I saw the Elodie in the amazing teal colorway this season, I knew I wanted to rekindle an old flame.

ElodieSizing:ย  For both Fantasie and Freya, a 30H typically fits the best, and the Elodie conforms to the rule.ย  While Freya’s bands can sometimes tread into stretchy territory, I have always enjoyed how Fantasie fits firmer.ย  The 30 band feels perfectly snug while the cups contour to the top of my breasts without any overflow, gaping, or puckering.

Elodie_1Fit:ย  Because my breasts are close together on my chest with very little side tissue, I prefer bras with narrow underwires and deeper cups.ย  Elodie sports a narrow gore and fairly deep cups, but the underwire on the side extends backward too far, leaving empty space near the underwire.ย  Furthermore, the cups could be deeper near the center gore where the design is forcing my breasts apart.ย  The silhouette is not quite East/West, but the contrast from Cleo has me more critical of too much separation.ย  Nevertheless, I am still getting good forward projection from the added side support panels, but I think a slightly deeper cup would have been perfect for me.ย  To this effect, I am also experiencing some space issues at the bottom of the cup where my breast tissue sits above the underwire.ย  The coverage level on this bra is also a bit too much for my liking, and the sides of the cups dig into my arms, restricting my movement and causing pain.ย  Finally, on the purely aesthetic side, the profile created by Elodie is exceptionally pointy (even for this gal who will rock the vintage silhouette).ย  In fact, the design creates a sharply angled shape which does not make me feel as though my breasts are being lifted enough, and under clothes, it looks rather odd.

Elodie_3Personal caveats aside, the Elodie would work well for softer, bottom-heavy tissue, especially if you are not quite as close set as I am.ย  Elodie has fit potential, but I do not think our shapes agree.

Materials & Design:ย  Most of the bras I buy are under $55, and the Elodie blows my upper limit away with its whopping $78 price tag.ย  However, the additional cost manifests itself in the laudatory use of high quality materials.ย  The interior of the cup features a sturdy but soft satin fabric while the upper cup sports ornate embroidery on a fine mesh.ย  And oh that embroidery!ย ย  Intricate and eye-catching without creating a lumpy mess under clothes, the embroidery truly evokes a romantic, vintage aesthetic totally unlike the bras I normally buy.ย  Fully-adjustable straps also offer small design flourishes which make the entire design feel thoughtful. Moreover, the flexible side stays and three hook-and-eye closures provide amazing support and smoothing.ย  As much as I Iove my Cleo bras, I felt an instant improvement in the way the band of the Elodie anchored and supported.

Elodie_2Gothic and almost decadent, the Elodie maximizes the deep teal color choice with black accents for a luxurious, straight-from-the-boudoir sex appeal.ย  Ordinarily, Fantasie contrasts the base color with light embroidery, such as white or cream, but the switch to black succeeds so well.ย  Furthermore, the sheer top cup exposes considerable nipple (hence my pears) for a classy peekaboo aesthetic.ย  Fantasie always feels very grown-up to me with a more traditional design palette heavy on florals, lace, embroidery, and rich colors.ย  Even though Elodie ticks a few boxes (color and embroidery especially), the design captures a certain freshness and effortless sexiness.ย  Overall, I wish the fit and silhouette issues were nonexistent because I adore the look of the Elodie.
